What’s your go-to hand setup for winter rides?

What’s your go-to hand setup for winter rides?

Pogies, gloves? What bars / grips? Warm hands = longer rides. There are many right answers.

  • Gloves + layering approach?
  • Pogies/Bar Mitts model (if any)?
  • Grip type (foam, lock-on) – Do foam grips keep your hands warmer / insulate you from the bars?
  • Bar material – Are carbon bars warmer than aluminum, steel or Ti?
  • How you manage sweat / wetness?
  • What is one upgrade that made the biggest difference for warm hands?

  1. I have a set of Bar Mitts that I use. Simple on/off and easy to clean after a long slushy winter. I also have several different pairs of gloves that are thinner or thicker depending on the temperature fluctuations. Frozen fingers are never fun, so I carry hot packs in my frame bag for emergencies.
