Fat (Video) Tuesday – Fat Biking Omaha Beach on eFat Bikes

Today’s Fat (Video) Tuesday selection I found on the Normandy Tourism website and extolls the virtues of riding the famous Omaha Beach area on Electric Fat Bikes!

Likely you already know why Omaha Beach in Normandy has a prominent place in history but if not…

Omaha Beach is famous as one of the primary landing sites for Allied forces during the D-Day invasion of Normandy in World War II. It is located on the northern coast of France, in the Normandy region, specifically in the Calvados department.

On June 6, 1944, American troops from the 1st and 29th Infantry Divisions landed on Omaha Beach as part of Operation Overlord, the massive Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe. The beach was heavily fortified by German forces, and the Americans faced intense resistance, resulting in high casualties. Despite the difficulties, the troops eventually secured the beach, making it a pivotal moment in the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi control.

Today, Omaha Beach is a significant historical site. The beach is dotted with the remains of German bunkers. On the shore, the stainless-steel sculpture Les Braves commemorates American soldiers. Behind the beach is the Musée Mémorial d’Omaha Beach, also documenting the invasion. Nearby, the Overlord Museum displays WWII tanks, artillery and dioramas.
