Wallpaper Wednesday – Bikes, Boat & Goats

Sven recently took a trip to the other side of the big Midwest pond, tagging along with Dave, AKA Puck, Lunz, and entourage on his annual fat bike tour of Lake Michigan. The route begins at Fat-Bike.com home base in Milwaukee and, this year, the crew took the S.S. Badger ferry across to cruise the western coast of Michigan in search of sandy beach riding!

The S.S. Badger has been operating for 70 years and is the last coal-fired passenger ship operating in the United States. It was recently refitted with new propeller shaft bearings and some other work at Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. There has been some discussion about converting the ship to a cleaner-burning fuel.

This year, Lunz and crew mostly explored the beaches south and north of Ludington. In the past, they have headed south and taken the modern Lake Express high-speed ferry from Muskegon back to Milwaukee. While much faster, the smaller ship is often a bumpy ride in choppy water.

Sven is back at FB.C Global Headquarters, and I am sure he will have more from the trip to share here soon.
